my music

The Horace and Doris Morris String Metal and Plastic Quintet featuring Ornette Coleman Hawkins and Donna Lee Hooker play the music of Chris Nicholls . . . actually I played most of it myself on that most versatile of instruments, the computer. Composed most of it too.

I’ve divided it into three sections largely because the pieces kept arguing with each other and had to be sent to separate rooms . . . and because of the butterflies.

touchy feely10 pieces, each 7 to 10 minutes long, commissioned by my friend Werner Kozole for his company Idema. They are supposed to be repetitive but not boring, soothing but not soporific, ontogenous but not phylogenic. Tricky. Some of them are vegetarian. The names were drawn out of a hat by Werner and colleagues - they are much more solemn than my own titles, but we’re in Germany now. Here are a few excerpts in MP3 form

jazzy*  We haven’t recorded anything yet, but here are some of the tunes and a couple of arrangements. Jazz sounds particularly daft for a one-man computer band - these are mostly just demos.

silly*  The first two feature Chris Nicholls on vocals, more down and going than up and coming methinks, and were done for my nieces and nephew in N. Ireland. Stephen had a thing about his shadow a few years ago, hence Me and my Shadow. He’s all right now.

The vocal on the third was recorded in our studio. It was done completely seriously. I was rolling about on the floor, of course, but I don’t think the artist noticed.

The next was for Stephen’s birthday - his is in March, which gives me time to concoct something after Christmas. Ciara and Riona have their birthdays too early, silly girls.

And  Riona has the last word, as usual.

*Touchy, Feely, Jazzy and Silly? Can Snow White be far behind?
